AO praises logistics staff for extra effort during Covid

AO has praised its logistics staff for their hard work during Covid. Speaking during the presentation of the company’s latest financial results this week, chief financial officer Mark Higgins said staff had helped the company grow its UK business by 59%, generating sales of £1.4 billion.
“I was incredibly thankful to all our AOers, particularly those in our logistics business, who stepped up to the plate in the early days of Covid and continued to deliver for our customers,” he said. Higgins revealed that freezers were the first hot product as Covid hit, following by gaming, consumer electronics and major domestic appliances in the run-up to Christmas.

The company focussed on deliveries to its regular partners and AO customers during the pandemic, putting new growth of its third-party logistics business on hold.

In the UK it increased warehouse capacity by over 80%, adding around 600,000 sq ft of space in order to mitigate supply chain disruption and serve customer demand.

AO makes around 14,000 deliveries a day across the UK and Germany and operates 1.8 million sq ft of warehousing. In the next five years it plans to expand into five territories and more than double its current turnover with AO looking to move into Italy, France and Spain.

“Delivering brilliantly for customers is at the heart of our mission to become the global destination for electricals,” said AO founder and chief executive, John Roberts.
