Argos will today (27 May 2015) open two digital stores in Sainsbury’s supermarkets in North Cheam in Surrey and Nantwich in Cheshire.
There will be 10 such Argos-in-Sainsbury’s stores opening this summer, which will range in size from 1,000 square feet to 5,000 square feet.
Their locations are: Nantwich; North Cheam; West Hove; Crayford; Calcot; Bognor Regis; Durham; Rustington; Drumchapel and Keighley.
Last month, Home Retail Group, which owns Argos, announced total sales in 2015 had increased by 1% to £5.7bn, with like-for-like sales up 0.6% at Argos, and up 2.3% at its other major brand, Homebase.
Argos Director of Retail and Customer Operations, Steve Carson, said: “Working with Sainsbury’s will help us to bring the convenience of the Argos offer to more customers. This is the first time we have had stores in these specific locations. I’m delighted to bring our very latest digital stores to customers inside their local Sainsbury’s. I am particularly pleased with how our teams have worked together to make sure customers have the best experience of this very new partnership.”
In March of this year, the supermarket chain said it was making click-and-collect grocery shopping available in 100 of its stores this year.
Sainsbury’s Retail & Operations Director, Roger Burnley, said: “This partnership with Argos is one of a series of steps we are taking to ensure we continue to offer our customers a wide range of products at great value and to make their shopping more convenient. We are looking forward to working with Argos to ensure the best availability and shopping experience for our customers.
Argos says that around half its total sales now start online, with around 90% of customers visiting one of 755 stores to pick up their goods.
