Boohoo introduces £1.99 returns charge

Boohoo has become the latest retailer to introduce a returns fee for goods ordered online.
The company will now charge customers £1.99 for each parcel returned, with the fee deducted from the refund amount.

It follows the revelation earlier this year that Zara was charging customers £1.95 for customers returning online orders to a drop-off point rather than a store. Next also charges for online returns with a £2.50 fee incurred for any returns not made to store.

In May Boohoo revealed that returns rates had risen significantly in the second half of the year, ahead of both expectations and pre-pandemic levels.

However, Boohoo customers can get around the new fee if they are part of the company’s Premier delivery and returns subscription service which allows unlimited next-day delivery and free returns for the year.

The £1.99 fee will also be implemented for shoppers using buy now, pay later schemes – such as Klarna.

The company said the move was in part to improve sustainability. Boohoo also offers paperless returns for customers.
