Deutsche Post DHL is introducing new machines in Germany which will allow customers to collect parcels.
Called “Poststations”, the machines offer the majority of services which would be available from a post office. These include selling postage materials and the ability to deposit parcels to send.
Within a few months the company plans to add the ability for customers to register to collect parcels from the machines. Each one features 18 and 106 parcel compartments for sending and receiving parcels.
The initial roll-out will include 20 in the North Rhine-Westphalia region, including Cologne, Aachen and Euskirchen.
Holger Bartels, Head of Sales Post & Parcel Germany at Deutsche Post DHL Group, said: “With the Poststation we would like to offer our customers our postal services at even more locations – and in the most convenient way possible. This means that the new machine can be used around the clock and is easy to operate.
“This enables us to respond directly to the wishes of our customers who regularly report these needs to us in surveys.”
“Especially where there are no branches or only branches with short opening times, the post office can represent a real improvement in service for people. But the new machine can also supplement the branch offerings at other locations with round-the-clock service.
“Today machines make our lives easier in many places – be it ATMs, ticket machines or our packing stations. We are therefore optimistic that our postal stations will also be well received by our customers. “
