At a time when many in the sector are holding their breath and crossing their fingers, DPD is celebrating a record year and claims to have avoided “the kinds of problems facing rivals such as Yodel, who were recently forced to suspend collections after being swamped by Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.”

Dwain McDonald, the parcel company’s CEO confirmed that the company, which employs 9,000 people in the UK, is on track for a record breaking year, delivering 150 million parcels, claiming that “while parcel volumes this Christmas are up over 20%, the company has been able to maintain an excellent service throughout December.”

“DPD’s daily parcel volumes in December have been up 21-24% consistently above last year, but that is what we planned for. We plan for 48 weeks of the year for December because we know just how busy our retailers are going to be.

Earlier this month, DPD announced that building work on its new £100 million hub had been completed ahead of schedule. The company also now operates a seven-days-a-week delivery service, which it rolled out nationwide in July of this year.

DPD is rounding off 2014 by winning a customer satisfaction award from the Money Saving Expert website, in which 9,000 people voted with DPD getting 66% of the votes.
