Editorial: Why it’s more crucial than ever to ensure delivery is green

DeliveryX

As delivery volumes grow so do the implications of those deliveries and so it’s no surprise retailers and their carrier partners are working hard on green alternatives. This week a report from ParcelHero suggests that home deliveries could be in danger of losing their reputation as the greenest way to shop. The report also looks at the trend by companies to shift to alternative methods of transport such as bicycles and electric vans as they try to combat the threat of pollution.
DPD is one such company to be making the shift with the revelation of the launch of its first all-electric parcel depot in London. It also has plans for a further seven similar sites in the capital.

In its latest financial results ASOS has revealed that it will focus even more heavily on its Premier Delivery option following the scrapping of its loyalty scheme. The number of customers signed up has increased by 53% in the last year. The retailer also recapped on its delivery and logistics milestones this year and the ongoing development of hubs in the UK, US and Europe.

We also have news of a start-up that connects businesses with available freight capacity raising new funding for expansion and how retailers are still overpackaging when it comes to delivery.

Finally, we have news of a new recruitment campaign by Yodel where the company is using existing staff to highlight the benefits of working for the parcel carrier.
