Expansion and acquisition in the rapid delivery market

DeliveryX
Gorillas

Expansion and acquisition are on the cards for rapid delivery firms Getir and Gorillas. Getir has announced a UK expansion, while Gorillas announced it is in acquisition talks with a French company.
Turkish firm Getir launched in London last year and plans to add a further 6,000 staff to its existing 4,000 strong workforce. The company says it will invest £100 million in its UK business this year.

It is competing against the likes of Gorillas, which launched a trial with Tesco last year, and which this week announced it is in acquisition talks with French firm Frichti.

In a joint statement, Gorillas and Frichti said the proposed acquisition would enable the firms to offer customers meal kits, private label and grocery categories, as well as local products.

Frichti was founded in 2015 and now delivers fresh groceries, private label products and ready-to-eat meals to more than 450,000 customers in eight key cities in France and Belgium. Gorillas meanwhile has already opened 22 stores in five key cities in France and the deal would allow it to broaden its local footprint and density.
