Hobbycraft’s spring range sees the retailer introduce more lines than ever before packaged in reusable or recyclable materials.

For Easter 2023, plastic packaging at Hobbycraft has been reduced significantly and where it has to be used for product protection the retailer has secured it from a recycled source.

The spring collection is another successful step towards achieving the retailer’s sustainability targets, with 21% of all products within the business now having plastic-free packaging, and a further 19% having no packaging at all. The retailer has removed 324,000 pieces of plastic from the 2023 Easter range compared to last year. Customers can now only purchase biodegradable glitter, and Styrofoam has been removed from the product range.

Hobbycraft said it is becoming increasingly important for people to come together and collectively work towards a more sustainable future to protect the world’s ecosystem. As part of its ‘Making a Difference’ plan, the retailers continues to work with progressive supplier partners to deliver more sustainably sourced products and reduce waste and carbon emissions within the business.

The range also includes hundreds of mache, wooden, and ceramic blanks, all of which are sold with no packaging, ready to be transformed into bespoke Easter decorations. These crafty creations are designed to be reused for years to come, as the brand aims to encourage more people to craft in the most sustainable way possible.

These personalised designs have already been proving popular, with searches for ‘wooden blanks’, ‘ceramic blanks’ and ‘mache eggs’ all increasing by 386%, 687% and 450% respectively in 2023 so far compared to the same timeframe in 2022.

For those looking to showcase their crafting skills and create a beautiful collection of reusable and sustainable decorations this Spring, the arts and crafts retailer offers up a selection of in-store and online workshops for customers to enjoy, including how to create your own Easter Treat Bucket and Easter Wreath. While the Hobbycraft Ideas Hub houses thousands of Easter craft ideas to inspire customers from Spring Stash Busting Projects to How to Make Spring Tin Can Animals and many more.

Katherine Paterson, customer director at Hobbycraft, said: “At Hobbycraft, we believe in the power of crafting and making something yourself, not only because it supports mental wellbeing and skill development, but also to reassure our customers they are crafting in the most sustainable way possible.

“Our Easter range is another amazing step in our sustainable sourcing journey, and we hope the collection inspires more of our customers to try out some personalised projects that can be enjoyed for years to come.”
