DeliveryX

From delivery drones to augmented reality in digital stores, the future of retail logistics was on display last week for over 5,000 visitors at the Internet Retailing Expo (IRX) which saw 20% year-on-year growth, a wider selection of the world’s best service providers than ever and the launch of the co-located eDelivery Expo (EDX).
IRX-178With over 100 retail speakers, 250 exhibitors, 28 conferences and workshops and a record number of visitors, all eyes were on the IRX and EDX which took place on 25 and 26 March 2015 at Birmingham’s NEC.

The event reaffirmed its place as the premier exhibition in the multichannel diary, with the launch of EDX establishing itself as the number one event for multichannel logistics and operations professionals, covering topics including supply chain, fulfilment, operations, warehousing and packaging.

Speakers from the top names in retail shared their insights and inspired visitors at the show. Highlights included John Roberts, founder and chief executive of AO.com, who shared lessons from the company’s stockmarket flotation. Menswear specialist Moss Bros also reported its ecommerce sales had risen by 58.9%, with online sales now accounting for 7.8% of the retail group’s turnover and John Munnelly, Head of Operations at John Lewis discussed the logistical challenges of Black Friday.

In the Digital Store showcase, visitors were delighted with the trial of the latest Oculus Rift virtual reality technology and West Pier Studio’s augmented reality technology demonstrations highlighting the impact of digital technology and the powerful effect of 3D design tools.

The IREU Footprint Report was also launched at the show; highlighting the 800 leading retailers selling in Europe today. From ATU and Abercrombie & Fitch to Zlotewyprzedaze, Zoot and Zulily, the report lists the leading traders of the 31 countries of the Economic European Area, plus Switzerland. Following further analysis, the list will be narrowed down to the 500 that will make up the IREU Top500, to be published at the Internet Retailing Conference in October.

Ian Jindal, Editor-In-Chief of eDelivery Magazine, said: “IRX exemplifies the best in multichannel. Our wonderful speakers, sharing insights and inspiration in packed theatres, professional peers learning and networking and of course the largest gathering to date of the leading suppliers to the industry – partners who can deliver on the ambitions plans hatched at the show. Alongside EDX’s successful launch we saw that the event is a meeting place for the industry to be inspired and drive commercial success.”

The next important date in the multichannel diary is 24 September 2015 for the Internet Retailing Awards which recognise the achievements of the leading and admired multichannel retailers. 13 October 2015 will see the launch of the eDelivery Conference and 14 October 2015 for the renowned InternetRetailing Conference – the UK’s leading high level strategic conference for the ecommerce and multichannel retail operations, fulfilment, logistics and supply chain professional.
