The UK’s logistics jobs market has risen by a 7% average monthly increase in terms of vacancies since April 2016, according to job meta-search engine Joblift.
The company’s research has shown that a total of 297,701 jobs have been offered in the period. This compares to a growth of 1% in the UK job market as a whole. The study showed that the biggest direct employer was Yodel which has offered 1,981 jobs since April 2016, followed by Amazon.co.uk which posted 1,348 jobs.
Freight drivers are the most sought after professions with a total of 40,253 jobs posted in the past year and an average monthly growth of 9%. Warehouse staff and box fillers are the second most in-demand positions with an average monthly growth of 10% and 19,123 job postings in the past year.
The study showed that full-time positions made up 94% of all logistics jobs posted online, with part-time jobs making up just 5%. However, when considering percentage increase and job market growth, full-time postings had an average monthly increase of 4% since April 2016, compared to a 25% monthly increase in part-time positions.
The greatest number of vacancies was in Greater London, with 52,913 jobs posted in the past year – around five times more than Birmingham, which was second with 10,064 listings.
