Morrisons hires staff to boost Amazon presence

DeliveryX

Morrisons is scaling up its presence on Amazon by hiring over a thousand new workers to fulfil orders.
The new workers will pick and pack orders in over 50 Morrisons stores across the country, forming part of a dedicated team which ensures orders are packed correctly.

Morrisons offers its main product range through a dedicated Amazon store. It also offers selected products for delivery through Amazon Prime Now, available through the eponymous membership programme.

Hannah Horsfall, head of Amazon at Morrisons, said: “At Morrisons, we’re doing everything we can to ensure everyone can order our great value food and have it delivered to their doorstep. We’re looking for team players, with good customer service skills that can play their full part in helping to feed the nation.”

The new hires come as Morrisons continues to scale up its online operations following the outbreak of Covid-19 in the UK at the beginning of this year. Amongst its initiatives, it has worked with on-demand courier app Deliveroo and partnered with DPD on a “food box” which offers a supply of basic food items.

Amazon has also been making inroads into the sector, launching a same-day grocery delivery service on Prime in much of the UK in July.

The service, initially available in 40 postcodes across the south-east, including in London, Woking and Guildford, will be extended to the rest of the UK by the end of the year.

There is a £40 minimum spend to qualify for free delivery in a two-hour window, or a fee of £3.99 to get a one-hour window for the same-sized basket. The company said same-day delivery will be available in certain areas on orders before 9PM.
