Ocado has opened its third Zoom micro fulfilment centre in Leyton, enabling it to deliver 1,000 products to customers in North and East London within 60 minutes.

Zoom by Ocado, launched in February last year, aims to delivery food and household products to customers using a fleet of low-carbon, last mile delivery vehicles including electric-assisted and pedal-powered cargo bikes.

The company currently has two sites trialling these zero-emission vehicles in the UK capital, one in Acton and a second in Canning Town – which between them have delivered 880,000 orders quickly and sustainably.

Ocado plans to open several more sites around London by 2025, extending the offering to more customers as part of its wider ambitions to reach zero emissions by 2035.

Furthermore, this latest site in Leyton will create 130 jobs while serving shoppers in Newington Green, Highbury, Green lanes, Stoke Newington, Stamford Hill, South Tottenham, Leytonstone, Walthamstow, South Woodford and parts of Finsbury Park.

Ocado’s head of Zoom, George Dean, said: “We believe that rapid delivery shouldn’t mean compromising on product range, value or quality – our existing customers tell us they love the wide range available on Zoom by Ocado which includes M&S lines, great-value Ocado own-label range and hyper-local suppliers such as East London Liquor. We can’t wait to bring all this and more to Leyton now, and Leeds in the coming months.

“We’re committed to being the best neighbour possible, contributing to the community by way of supporting local suppliers and through charitable partnerships in the area.”
