Parcelforce Worldwide expands larger item capability as UK parcels market approaches £10 billion

DeliveryX

Royal Mail Group’s express parcel business, Parcelforce Worldwide, is upgrading its larger parcels offering following customer demand for carriers who are able to handle larger parcels, as well as the fact that some carriers are reducing the maximum size parcels they will carry.
It claims that some retailers are restricting their online product ranges since they have struggled to find a carrier to deliver larger items. The company also claimed that quality of service was below expectation for many customers when dealing with larger parcels.

Customers will have full tracking and interactive delivery notification messaging as well as the option to change the delivery day or opt for parcels to be left with a neighbour (where appropriate) for larger items.

The Parcelforce Worldwide move comes as a new report, the 2017 UK Parcels Market Insight Report, from Apex Insight, reveals that the UK parcels market is now approaching £10 billion in size. Its study shows that whilst the likes of DPD and Hermes have continued to grow strongly and profitably new models are also gaining traction. It says its analysis shows that 10% of market revenues are now accounted for by companies outside of the set of leading networks.
