Dutch mail giant PostNL has rolled out more of its parcel lockers, which allow its customers to send or receive packages.
The five machines in Harderwijk combines a letter box with parcel lockers and can be used at any time of the day.
The firm has already trialled the machines in a range of cities including Amsterdam and the Hague. The new additions bring the total in the country to 71.
Jean-Luc Otten, business development manager at PostNL: “Consumers are increasingly shopping online. They receive and send more and more packages and want to do that wherever and whenever it suits them. The parcel and letter machines are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”
Otten added: “We are currently still talking to the municipality about the placement of a sixth machine near the PC Hooftplein. We look for easily accessible, central locations every time. The municipality of Harderwijk was enthusiastic about the parcel and letter machine from the start. ”
Last August, Royal Mail began a trial of a new type of postbox which will allow smaller sellers to use them for posting pre-paid parcels. The service was available to parcels which had been pre-paid through Royal Mail’s online labelling system Click & Drop.
It allowed users to send a parcel without having to register and integrates with marketplaces such as eBay, Amazon and Shopify. The company has not confirmed whether it will roll them out more widely.
