Following almost a year of talks, Royal Mail Group and the Communication Workers Union (CWU) have reached a negotiators’ agreement.

In a joint statement released on 15 April, the parties explained that the union’s postal executive will now meet and consider the negotiators’ agreement on Monday and Tuesday. Should the agreement be endorsed by the executive, the union will put in place a full plan to engage members over the deal.

Industrial action began in August 2022 when over 115,000 members of the CWU walked out over pay and unagreed changes related to the structure of work at offices across the country. There were 18 days of industrial action in total, with Royal Mail claiming that it has improved its proposal multiple times.

CWU described Royal Mail’s management of the talks as showing a “complete lack of integrity”. This announcement comes after a breakdown in talks earlier in April.

More information on the deal will follow later this week
