Both Royal Mail and Asda ToYou announce new instore returns solutions

Both Royal Mail and Asda have announced the launch of new returns solutions this week that aim to make the process easier for customers.
Royal Mail will launch Labels to Go, a new self-service mobile returns solution in April. It will allow customers who have thrown their returns label away or simply don’t have access to a printer to print out a label at any of Royal Mail’s 1,200 customer service points from their mobile.

Customers using Royal Mail’s tracked returns portal will receive an email with a unique QR code, which they then take to a customer services point instore, scan the code to print off their label and then drop off the parcel. Currently the label has to be printed at home.

The service was announced in the Royal Mail’s presentation at this week’s The Delivery Conference where Paul Anastasiou, senior director of Asda ToYou revealed that the retailer was to do the same for its ToYou parcel collection and returns service. “At the end of Q1 we will introduce return QR codes on smartphones, desktops and mobile on our website but also as widgets, technology that can be integrated on partners websites too, to allow partners’ customers to print a returns QR code,” he said.

Royal Mail meanwhile also revealed that delivery confirmation, which is currently live for all customers using Royal Mail shipping solution will also go live for customers purchasing shipping from the Post Office from April.
