Click & collect partnership likely to see further boost for DPD, claims CEO

DeliveryX

DPD CEO Dwain McDonald says his company is poised for a festive bonanza after the recent addition of Sainsbury’s to the company’s DPD Pickup parcel shop network.
With the launch of 200 newly designed digital Click & Collect points instore by the end of this year, customers will be able to pick up DPD parcel deliveries, as well as Tu clothing and eBay purchases from a Sainsbury’s store close to them, allowing them to collect online orders at the same time they do the rest of their shop.

The DPD Pickup service originally launched in June 2015 with more than 2,500 DPD Pickup locations including Halfords and Doddle now available to customers. As well as being an option during the purchase process DPD Pickup is also an inflight option available as part of DPD’s Predict text and email notification service, allowing customers to divert a delivery to one of the DPD Pickup points if they aren’t going to be in.

“Sainsbury’s fits perfectly with what we are trying to do,” said McDonald. “The in-store experience is excellent and DPD customers will have the reassurance of knowing their parcel has been securely stored for them. In addition, they will have the convenience of parking, the new speedy Click & Collect digital checkouts and being able to do other shopping at the same time,” he said.

“I think click and collect is going to be huge again this Christmas and when you can select your local Sainsbury’s from the list of available DPD Pickup stores, you can just see people combining that with a bit of Christmas food shopping or some last minute gift buying,” he said.

DPD’s recent developments:

June 2015 – June – launched DPD Pickup allowing customers to collect parcels from more than 2,500 locations.

May 2016 – launched Your DPD app, enabling customers to set their own delivery preferences including the ability to request that drivers always avoid certain times of the day, such as the school run.

July – Launch of DPD Precise which allows customers to select their own, exact one-hour delivery slot on the day of their choosing. Precise was initially launched with online fashion retailer ASOS and has since been rolled out to more retailers including New Look and Boohoo.

DPD operates more than 3,000 vehicles from 56 locations and delivers 200 million parcels a year.
