SPEAKER Q&A Julie Briggs head of carriers Boohoo Group

DeliveryX

With just over one week to go until ChannelX World – where marketplace experts will come together to shape the future of marketplace retail – Julie Briggs, head of carriers at Boohoo Group shares some of her experience.

How did you got into the carrier industry?
It was purely accidental! Post education, I briefly studied Fashion Design but I was eager to get into the workplace. A full-time opportunity arose to join Littlewoods Group in an operational role. 12 months in, I moved over to the logistical arm of the business, Business Express. Business Express was the carrier provider for Littlewoods Group and providing a delivery services for the group and other mail order businesses, before the online boom exploded!

Tell us about your career journey and why you’ve remained committed to the B2C sector?
I joined Business Express, who at the time created an in-house Customer Service department. This was well before digitalisation was around. Having spent a number of years in this environment, undertaking a number of different roles. I decided to move over to the Commercial team to start my journey in account management. Account management opened up a broader learning taping into all areas of the business, from financial management to marketing. Its’ been fascinating to watch the evolution in the ecommerce and logistics sector. Each day presents a new set of challenges and love taking those challenges on!

What made you move over from carriers to e-tail businesses, and which side do you prefer?
It was a natural progression for me. Working closely with large global multi-channel retailers for many years, understanding their needs and providing solutions adaptable to the market conditions at the time was something I loved. When I was offered the opportunity to work in the carrier team for ASOS & Boohoo, how could I refuse? It’s nice to be on the Retail side and work collaboratively with our carrier partners. I feel incredibly lucky that my careers choices have given me a broad and deep understanding of both sides of the service proposition.

Briggs will be looking at how businesses balance their needs with consumer expectations at ChannelX World next Thursday [13 October 2022]. To hear more from Boohoo and other top retailers including LK Bennett, Emma Bridgewater, Eve Sleep and Debenhams register for your ticket today!
