Wickes to roll out new distribution initiatives

Wickes is to roll out new distribution and supply chain initiatives across its business after reporting that both its store and distribution environments handled record levels of throughput last year.
Revealing its full year results for the year ended 1 January 2022 today, Wickes said it had worked hard to manage the extra demand with investment and innovations including new in-store digital handheld terminal picking capability, which it said also enables prioritisation of trade customer orders, and ‘park and collect’ allowing customers to remain in their vehicles when collecting goods from stores.

The retailer also reconfigured 50 of its highest-volume home delivery and click and collect fulfilment stores to create 50,000 square feet of additional storage space. It said this was done without affecting store ranges or compromising the store format. It said many of these initiatives are now being rolled out across the business.

Wickes also updated on how it was dealing with the environmental impact of its business. It has just completed its first carbon footprinting exercise for Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, as well as assuring the data to be used in future carbon reduction targets. The company has also started testing new low-carbon technologies for future use in its estate, including electric air source heat pumps for stores, and electric vans for its distribution centres.
