Will delivery be the Black Friday and Cyber Monday saviour this year?

DeliveryX

So, did you bag a bargain on Black Friday (or over the weekend…. or indeed any of the days preceding it?)
It seems that for 2016 much of the action moved online rather than instore for Black Friday. Argos for example reported half a million visits to its website in only the first hour of online trading between midnight and 1am on Friday morning and online purchases rose 6.7% compared to last year – though a rise of 25% had been expected at one point. So will the spend on Cyber Monday, on the ‘official’ online shopping discount day, match the Black Friday hype?

It’s predicted that more than a billion pounds will be spent today. That compares to £968 million last year and £720 million in 2014. In a recent DealNews survey 83% of consumers said they would be shopping today, compared to 77% last year. That is of course if the Black Friday online deals didn’t tempt them already?

David Jinks, head of consumer research at ParcelHero, believes the predictions will be realised. “The online only Monday sales event may have been overshadowed by Black Friday but many online retailers have decided that resistance is far from futile and have been keeping some hot deals up their sleeve,” he says.

Indeed, what is likely to have been the winning factor for many – for both Black Friday and Cyber Monday today – is the no quibble day easy return option for customers meaning that it’s easy for them to bag a bargain and return it online, leaving the retailers and delivery specialists to do the hard work.

Jinks says that ecommerce retailers that work closely with their delivery providers to provide a seamless returns policy will have the advantage over brick and mortar stores who, after all have only to accept goods back if they are faulty under the Consumer Rights Act.

So once again it’s delivery that will remain the dealbreaker over this discount period.
